Characteristic of Konjac Powder

Glucomannan is a soluble, bulk-forming fiber derived from the konjac root (Amorphophallus konjac) that can help maintain intestinal regularity and leave you feeling full. Use to thicken soups and sauces and to give a nice crunch to keto cookies, which you simply don’t get from either almond or coconut flour. Oh and also this powder has no fishy smell.

Konjac powder extracted from konjac root 80g.

Our konjac powder is derived from konjac root, also known as glucomannan or devil’s tongue. It has an extremely high swelling effect and can absorb up to 200 times its volume of liquid, resulting in an extremely satiating feeling.

Here are some characteristics and features of it:

Low in calories: It’s extremely low in calories, making it a suitable choice for individuals looking to reduce their calorie intake. It typically contains only 5-10 calories per serving.

Low in carbohydrates: It’s very low in carbohydrates, making it an excellent alternative to traditional rice for those following low-carb diets. It contains only a fraction of the carbohydrates found in regular rice.

High in fiber: It is rich in dietary fiber, particularly soluble fiber known as glucomannan. This fiber is beneficial for digestion, helps promote feelings of fullness, and can assist with weight management.

Gluten-free: It’s naturally gluten-free, making it a suitable option for individuals with gluten sensitivities or those following a gluten-free diet.

Gelatinous texture: It has a unique gelatinous texture that differs from traditional rice. It is slightly chewy and has a firm texture, which some people may find different from regular rice.

Virtually tasteless: It doesn’t have a distinct flavor of its own. It tends to absorb the flavors of the sauces, spices, or ingredients it is cooked with, making it versatile and adaptable to various recipes.

Quick and easy to prepare: It is typically sold pre-packaged and ready to use. It requires minimal preparation and cooking time compared to traditional rice.

Promotes satiety: Due to its high fiber content, it can promote feelings of fullness and satiety, helping to control appetite and manage portion sizes.

Suitable for various dietary restrictions: It’s suitable for a wide range of dietary restrictions, including low-carb, ketogenic, gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian diets.

Can aid in weight management: It’s low-calorie and high-fiber content makes it a popular choice for individuals aiming to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight.

It’s important to note that konjac powder has a different texture and mouthfeel compared to traditional rice. Some individuals may find it takes time to get used to the unique texture and taste. It is recommended to experiment with different recipes and cooking methods to find the best way to incorporate them into your meals.

To get the positive effects of konjac powder, we recommend that you take 1 gram or 1 important measuring spoon (included) 4 times a day with plenty of water (about 350 ml) before meals. A low calorie diet is very important.

Please note that due to the highly expansive nature of konjac flour, you should ensure that you consume enough water. This product should not be used by people who have difficulty swallowing or insufficient fluid intake as there is a risk of choking.

Keep this product away from light, dry and out of the reach of children.

How To Cook Konjac Powder

Konjac powder is commonly used as a low-calorie, gluten-free, and low-carb alternative to traditional flours or thickeners. It is often used to make noodles, rice, and other gluten-free dishes. Here’s a simple recipe to cook with konjac root powder:

Ingredients:

1 cup konjac root powder
1 ½ cups water or vegetable broth
Salt and seasonings (optional)
Instructions:

Start by preparing the konjac powder. If you are using dry konjac powder, follow the instructions on the package to rehydrate it. If you have konjac flour, skip this step.

In a medium-sized saucepan, bring water or vegetable broth to a boil.

Slowly add it to the boiling liquid while whisking continuously. This will prevent lumps from forming.

Reduce the heat to low and continue whisking for about 3-5 minutes until the mixture thickens. It should have a gelatinous consistency.

Remove the saucepan from heat and let the mixture cool for a few minutes.

Once cooled, you can season the konjac root mixture with salt and other preferred seasonings like herbs, spices, or garlic powder. This step is optional, and you can leave it plain if you prefer.

Transfer the konjac powder mixture onto a flat surface or a non-stick baking sheet. Spread it out evenly to your desired thickness. You can use a rolling pin to help flatten it.

Allow the powder mixture to cool and solidify completely. This may take around 1-2 hours. Once solid, you can cut it into desired shapes like noodles or rice.

If you’re making noodles, bring a pot of water to a boil and add the konjac root noodles. Boil them for 1-2 minutes or until they become tender. Avoid overcooking, as konjac noodles can become mushy if boiled for too long.

Drain the noodles and rinse them with cold water to remove any residual starchy flavor.

Now, your konjac powder noodles or rice are ready to be used in your favorite recipes. You can stir-fry them, add them to soups, or use them as a base for various dishes.
